I do land planning...at least when there is some to do! I design housing developments, golf course communities, resorts and portions of cities all over the world. I love what I do and have gotten to travel all over Austrailia, Asia, the middle east and parts of Europe. Unfortunately, the last year and a half have been dismal and so I have mostly been involuntarily retired. Anybody who is interested, I have always had a link to my website on the members list.

I'm a wine consultant for PRP Wine International. What that means is that I conduct wine events in people's homes. It's plenty of work -- I log about 55 to 60 hours a week -- but it's a blast, considering that I'm a total wine geek.

Vince, you're not a Cal Poly grad are you? I got my master's there in 1978. No but have ties there. Didn't they win a Division II national championship there in 79? John Scolions is their famous baseball coach. He passed away last year. he created a factory for future baseball coaches. I played for a manager and his assistant that were graduates of CPP. Many of my friends went on to play there. Had I not been injured, I would have probably transferred there too. John was amazing. He was respected by all. He counted Tommy Lasorda among his billion friends. I will never forget him watching us at practice and games. John could whisper and you would hear him from 400 feet away. Once both myself and his grandson were controversially thrown out of a game. Because we were the only two coaches in uniform, the umpires walked off and awarded a win to the other team. The home plate umpire claimed I was communicating with a coach that had been ejected. One of our players went up the hill to go to the toilet and that was good enough for the umpire to think we were communicating with each other illegally. Later, we sat in the coaches office for an hour listening to John being angry. I remember his grandson saying, "it (having John in our corner) makes what happened worth it". John liked me and supported my coaching career. His best friend is baseball's greatest ambassador. I was offered a position in Australia one year and turned it down. I could have met Oz if I had taken the job. That's my link to CPP. Vince

Actually, bat, I'm not -- but thanks truly for the heads-up on S&S. Since California has at least 1,200 wineries, it's nearly impossible for anyone to be familar with every one of them. My husband and I visited Paso Robles for three days to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary two years ago, and stopped by about 25 wineries to check out the vino. (The visit was part pleasure and part business, since we owned a specialty wine shop at the time and were always on the lookout for cool new wine selections to bring on board.) That said, PRP sources its grapes from more than 300 boutique vineyards from 12 different nations throughout the world ... no, I promised myself that I wouldn't ramble on about my gig on a non-wine board, but if you'd me to do a wine event at your home, PM me. Wine -- as well as fine dining, baseball, hockey, and running -- are my passions, but the first is how I pay my bills. I'm lucky to be able to say that.

*bump* I'm enjoying my weekend -- an entire day off -- today, hanging out in my jammies and about to have some pizza with a couple of glasses of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. (I'm gassed from yesterday, driving to Rancho Bernardo to present at a two-hour wine event. It went well, but that shot all Saturday; I didn't get back home until 10:15 p.m.) Tomorrow is another day altogether, starting with a mega-meeting about my company's new campaign capped off with a day of calling clients. That means, of course, that I'll be far, far away from any radio or TV broadcast of Monday's Dodgers-Angels brouhaha. Bummer. Jan/GFBBB
